I am in awe of God’s goodness
to us in Election '04! The best description of
my state of mind following Election '04 is sober delight. Sober
in that I realize that it’s only by God’s
mercy (withholding punishments due) and grace (giving
gifts we don’t deserve) that we have a God-fearing President-elect,
vital gains in the US Senate and House, and 11 states that passed
Constitutional amendments to honor God’s definition of
man-woman marriage. Delight in that I’m
delighted and thankful that He has blessed us with another chance
to honor His presence and principles in our land, appoint God-fearing
Supreme Court justices, and more.
We don’t deserve it.
We (the American church) have sat by and allowed 44 million
innocent unborn to be slaughtered (since Roe v. Wade in 1973),
when it was entirely in our power to stop this murderous practice
simply by exercising our God-given vote to select God-fearing,
pro-life, pro-family leaders. We’ve silently endured
and onslaught against God’s institution of marriage and
family, believing the lie that engaging in this battle is “divisive,”
“partisan,” and “of the world.”
But He has given us another four-year
window of mercy to get serious and consistent about
praying and working together locally to fulfill the Biblical
mandate to select God-fearing leaders. I’m thrilled
with the election results, but am also soberly reflecting, like
a man who God just rescued from a serious auto accident, about
the near-disaster that God averted. I’m encouraged
that He is speaking as a multitude to the hearts of many pastors
and Christians, awakening us to understand that our
precious God-given liberty is immediately at risk if
we don’t consistently pray and work together to select
God-fearing leaders.
While some may attempt to complicate the idea
of public policy participation and civic duty for Christians,
it is really quite simple from a Scriptural perspective.
We are to instructed to select leaders who are:
1. God-fearing [Exod. 18:21; II Sam. 23:3],
2. Pro-life [Exod. 21: 22, 23], and
3. Pro-family [Gen. 2:24; Mark 10:6-9].
This is not complex, political, partisan, or divisive; it
is Scriptural.
We seek unity with brothers and sisters in Christ until
ideas contrary to Biblical principle are suggested,
and then we must separate (Prov. 29:25). When Christ said
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth -- I
did not come to bring peace but a sword," (Matt. 10:34)
wasn't He speaking about the division that would come between
those who honor and obey Him, and those who don't?
Let’s rejoice and reflect on God's
goodness, and then get back to prayer and work. 2006
and 2008 are right around the corner, and the anti-God, anti-life,
anti-family forces are taking no time off. Decisive action
and the use of force against are Scriptural ideas (see Nehemiah
4 and Esther 9). We are
in a battle for the very survival of Christian civilization
against forces that seek to deny God's authority and principles
(radical Islam, secular humanism, pornography, homosexuality,
organizations including the ACLU, and more). We can't
affort to pussy-foot around this vital topic. We must
consistently pray and work together locally to select God-fearing
leaders if we are to preserve America's Christian foundation,
liberty, and the open door for the Gospel.
A Simple Local Specific Plan for Consistently
Selecting God-Fearing Leaders
To preserve America’s Christian foundation, liberty, and
the open door for evangelism, we must fulfill the Biblical mandate
to: pray for those in authority (I Tim.
2:1-2), invite His presence and help (II Chron.
7:14), and work to select God-fearing leaders
(Exod. 18:21, II Sam. 23:3).
Public Awareness Ministries groups pray
and work together, city-by-city, to fulfill our Biblical duty
to select God-fearing leaders (via non-partisan voter registration
in combination with the production of local voter guides). This
is not a project or election-year event, but rather it is an
ongoing ministry. Public Awareness Ministries groups are prayer-based,
non-partisan, and start easily (in prayer).
If you don’t have a Public Awareness
Ministries prayer-based group in your city, please start one.
It begins with one hour of prayer together every month.
We will help. Later we will teach you step-by-step
how to produce local non-partisan voter guides in conbination
with non-partisan voter registration (so that God-fearing leaders
can be selected according to a Biblical standard). Lord,
may Your kingdom come and Your will be done, on earth as it is
in Heaven (Luke 11:12) in our families, churches, and civil government.
May we love our neighbors as ourselves (Matt. 22: 36-40),
including innocent unborn individuals.
If you have a desire to see Biblical
principles advanced and God-fearing leaders selected in your
city and nation, then visit the Public
Awareness Ministries link at PreserveLiberty.com
and contact Mark Matta at Mark@PreserveLiberty.com
or 916-716-1075. We cannot take our country back until
we consistently take our cities back for Christ…
Think nationally; pray and work locally! Begin
today! Your children's liberty depends on it...
Blessed is the nation
whose God is the LORD (Psalm 33:12)
